It's that time of year, folks! Even though I haven't been blogging much here on the ol' Meatloaf (after all, Facebook kinda does the same thing now, right?), I just HAD to post my annual Facebook Status Year in Review. It's actually a fun way to look back and remember the year. So here it is: Every Facebook status update I posted in 2011.

JANUARY

As my last boneheaded move for 2010, I just realized that I left my Finding Nemo lunch bag (that I've had for three years) in the basket of the DAKcycle I rode out this afternoon at 4:00pm. I loved that lunch bag! However, someone is going to get some lovely dirty food containers and two pairs of clean underwear.

Had a great time at dinner in Epcot, then went to Downtown Disney for some Ghirardelli's. Saw a cool track jacket at World of Disney, but they didn't have my size. The only place on property that has them? Mouse Gear in Epcot. Sheesh!!

Finally got to watch last night's American Idol today, and... I liked it! It's so bizarre (in a good way) seeing singers I recognize from our show, tho!
Sitting in Health Services for the first time ever, I just realized I can still say I've never been injured in show as Bruce - today's boo-boo happened as Chum. However, in a totally unrelated glitch, Mr. Ray's bike went down this afternoon as well. Guess it just wasn't my day for puppets!

I hope this is the last time I'm ever hurt at work. The amount of driving back and forth to Health Services and Centra Care, to say nothing of the sitting around and waiting - all while in a lot of pain - is not an experience I'm anxious to revisit. I just want to go home and rest!!
Seven hours later and finally home - yay!! Official diagnosis: Lumbosacral sprain/strain. Prescriptions: Muscle relaxers and Motrin. Now to eat some dinner and crawl into bed!
Shouldn't muscle relaxants and pain meds make you feel better? Or at least less in pain? Bah!

Had a somewhat stressful day today, but finished it off with a awesome show at Sleuths (great cast! great audience!), the season finale of Downton Abbey, and one of Kevin's Whoopie Pies (devil's food/peanut butter). Gonna now watch last night's American Idol then hit the sack - there are Guncles gathering tomorrow!

So I was thinking I might get myself a guitar for my birthday, but it turns out that our neighborhood Guitar Center has no idea what the phrase "Customer Service" means. Not one employee acknowledged my presence, let alone asked if I needed help (including the lone guitar salesguy in the "Acoustic Corral").
Totally feeling bloated and can't decide if it was Manny's loaded cheese fries or the Porterhouse. Or both. Still... yummy!

My thoughts on Wonder Woman's TV costume (revealed today): the colors are too bright (esp. the blue), the armor looks too plastic. If the tiara, breastplate, belt, and other trim is gold, then the bracelets should be, too. I like the top (except for the star on the eagle), and I don't mind the pants per se, but the shiny material is horrible (I'm fine with the gold stars down the sides). The boots NEED to be red.
Did I really need that Capt'n Jack's Nutty Brother? Absolutely not. Was it worth every bite? Absolutely yes.

You know, I seldom post anything negative here on FB, but last night - after seven years and 1,020 performances - I did my last show at Sleuths Mystery Dinner Shows… and not one member of management even acknowledged it. No goodbyes, no well wishes… nothing. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but it definitely reinforced some of the reasons for my decision to leave.

Had a great night at Fringe - "My Monster" is brilliant, "Bitches of the Kingdom" is lots of fun (my personal favorite - Mulan), and "Heaven Help Us" is delightfully silly ("I'm a tree!"). Plus, sitting on the lawn chatting with friends (and seeing others) is always a highlight, as is the fried PB&J.
Ahhh... 7-mile bike ride, dip in the pool; time to shower and curl up with a good e-book.
Lounging by the pool today? Don't mind if I do!
People should learn by now that if you don't want to be spoiled about something, then stay off Facebook while it's happening.

JUNE

Just watched 7 hours straight of Game of Thrones. I'm a little numb.
Hope no one was planning on getting those Pride t-shirts from Old Navy in time for Gay Days weekend. Not only did they limit distribution to 26 stores out of 1000+ (which, admittedly, did include one in Orlando), they didn't ship them out in time for the June 1 arrival date.
Just had a fun day at Idol, as usual. :-)

Just parked in the Grumpy lot at the MK, and judging by the attitude of the parking attendants, it is very aptly named.
Our neighborhood Avon representative apparently decided the most effective way to distribute their catalog was to just toss it into everyone's driveway, thereby littering the entire street. I'm not sure that's the best method for enticing people to order products.
Just downloaded a new app on my iPad, and it automatically appeared on my iPhone. Thank you, iCloud!

The house next door finally sold. You gotta love new neighbors who have so many cars they have to park on their lawn, park in front of our house, and double up in the driveway so the sidewalk is blocked. Really classes up the neighborhood.

You know, it's weird that Friday is my Monday.
My very first ENCORE! Cast Choir & Orchestra experience is over - the soloists, choir, and orchestra were all amazing, the creative staff and tech crew achieved fantastic results, and much fun was had with my fellow actors. I'm super-excited about next year's charity and hope to be involved in some way to help a cause very near and dear to me. Kudos to all!
Folks, I am dead serious about this: DO NOT ADD ME TO AN "OPEN GROUP" WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. Those of you posting on those "You know you live in/are from [town]" or "I remember [workplace] when..." are basically spamming our newsfeeds thanks to Facebook's new "testing" phase and I WILL NOT be a party to it, nor should any of you. Stop posting on those sites. I've been reporting these posts (and, by extension, you) as spam, but I doubt it does any good, so my next step is just to unfriend the folks doing it. And while I doubt you will care, either, it will make ME feel better (and un-clutter my newsfeed with that crap).
Well, I tried the Google Music beta and, much like Google Wave before it (remember that?), decided it wasn't for me. I'm still liking Google+, tho.

I'm pretty sure this was the geekiest day off I've ever had. I explored more Pottermore, played a bunch of Sims Social, downloaded and played Tiny Tower for the iPad, and watched more Season 2 of The Big Bang Theory.

One of the best things about the iOS5 update is that now I can annoy Jim Braswell in the dressing room with fun e-mail notification sounds. Muahahahahaha! :-)
Back from first non-Disney cruise. My report: The good - a fun time with great friends; met some fun new folks; wholeheartedly enjoyed the activities we participated in (including the trip to Atlantis); the shows and entertainment were pretty good; a decent amount of eye candy. The meh - the ship smelled like an ashtray everywhere you went; sections were in disrepair; much of the food was average; the stateroom was minuscule (I know, I've been spoiled by Disney); many (but not all) of the staff were surly and disgruntled. The bad - neither the GLBT Center nor their travel agent felt it necessary to plan ANY events for this so-called "Pride of the Seas" cruise. There was nothing GLBT about this trip whatsoever, and no communication at all from either establishment. Major fail. No one's fault - the weather sucked. Rain all weekend and bad enough conditions to prohibit going to the private island, so we were stuck on the floating ashtray an extra day. Nassau is even worse in the rain. I think we'll stick with Disney cruises. :-)

Gregory Maguire has just released the fourth (and final) installment of the Wicked series, Out of Oz (which follows Son of a Witch and A Lion Among Men). While I'm not in any way a fan of the musical Wicked, I absolutely love the original book. I think it's time to start at the beginning again and read all 4 back-to-back!
I foolishly went to the Guitar Center that's near my house in a futile attempt to actually purchase something music-related. I was quickly reminded why I never go there - a sales staff that could not be less interested in customer service.

For Christmas Eve, I shall be judging four Idol shows (will I be naughty or nice?), then caroling at the Hilton Grand Vacation Suites near Sea World. For Christmas Day, there will be more judging and more caroling (this time at Disney's Shades of Green Resort)... all in lovely 80-degree weather. It is indeed a Happy Holiday!! :-)

Word has just come out that Steve Jobs has died. This is the frontpage of the Apple website:

My first Mac was an SE/30 that I was allowed to play with at my job at the New Haven Register back in the late 80s. It was also the first Mac I had in my home as my personal computer. From there I upgraded - in 1994 - to a Performa 475, a machine that included a little gizmo I had never seen before - a modem. The software package included on that Performa contained America Online - and thus my online addiction began. From the Performa, I upgraded to one of the "bubble" iMac G3s somewhere around 1999/2000 - but rather than one of the funky colors (Bondi Blue! Strawberry! Tangerine!), I opted for the special edition Graphite, which I ran into the ground until I got my current all-in-one 24"iMac in 2007. Currently, I find my iPhone and iPad indispensable, and let's just say that I'm no stranger to various Apple TVs, iPods, the Airport Express, the Magic Mouse, and a MacBook. I'm also an Apple shareholder.

To say that I'm a bit of a Mac fanatic might be an understatement.

I'm curious about the Facebook logo in the bottom left corner. Why does a gas station need a Facebook page, and why would I like/friend/join it? So I can know when crappy microwave burritos go on sale? So I'll be able to read on my newsfeed when a new slushie flavor comes out? Gas coupons, maybe (highly unlikely, I know)?

I pretty much spent the last week watching Season 3 of the 1966 Batman TV show. While I'm a fan of the show in general (it was, after all, what got me hooked on comic books), I'm particularly obsessed with Season 3 (1967-68) because that was the season that Batgirl debuted.

Barbara "Babs" Gordon, the daughter of Batman supporting character Police Commissioner James Gordon — debuted in Detective Comics #359 (cover-dated January 1967, but released in November 1966). This new character, jointly created by DC Comics Editor Julius Schwartz, artist Carmine Infantino and author Gardner Fox, was a collaboration between DC Comics and the Batman TV series. When producer William Dozier sought to renew the Batman program for a third season, he asked Schwartz for a new female character to be introduced in the comic book medium, which could be adapted into the television series in order to attract a female audience. She was played by former ballerina Yvonne Craig (who I had the good fortune to meet many, many years later).

She put her hands on her hips a lot, fan-kicked the bad guys in the face, had a bedroom wall that spun around to reveal her lair, was smarter than Robin, and drove a frilly purple motorcycle. Batgirl was cool.

Another reason Season 3 is by far the best Bat-season for me: Eartha Kitt as Catwoman. Catwoman's first portrayal in a medium outside comic books was by Julie Newmar in 12 episodes of the TV series. Eartha Kitt replaced Newmar in Catwoman's final three episodes after producers learned that Newmar was unavailable. Since it was the (albeit the late) 1960s, all romantic interest between Catwoman and Batman was dropped when Kitt put on the ears. I doubt anyone cared because Eartha Kitt WAS Catwoman.

(See? Batgirl's hands are on her hips! Then again, so are Catwoman's.)

To this day, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl remains my all-time favorite comic book character. Sigh. Those were the days, my friends.

I admit, I'm a bit of a stickler for grammar and spelling. So are many of my friends. In fact, one of my friends has an entire Facebook photo album dedicated to grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes she finds in everyday life.

Today, I saw a Facebook post that tops anything I've seen in quite some time. As a member of the Orlando theater community, I subscribe to several Facebook groups that keep me abreast as to what's going on in the local vicinity (and beyond). Like Harry Potter (see below), I also jumped onto the bandwagon late for this series as well. Man, how did I know about this? Admittedly, the HBO series piqued my interest, and several of friends were avid fans from the get-go, so that made me bite the bullet ad go for it. I read the first 4 books before I tackled the Harry Potter series, but Book 5 (A Dance With Dragons) came out last week and I've now finished that as well.

Thanks to my iPad and the Kindle and Nook apps, I'm thankfully doing a lot more reading than I have in a long time. Wonder what I should tackle next?

ABC announced their 2011 fall lineup yesterday, and to my surprise it included the following:

Charlie’s Angels is a retake of the classic 1970′s series that will air Thursdays at 8pm. The show centers around three female private investigators in Miami as they take directions from the voice of their boss, Charlie. Starring Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital), Rachael Taylor (Grey’s Anatomy), and Minka Kelly (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights, The Roommate) this show will be an interesting one to watch, as the writers try to decide how true to stay to the original. The preview clip showed that the new series won’t stray too much from the popular show. From Executive Producer Drew Barrymore, this show was referred to as the “Thursday night anchor” and “a great lead-in to Grey’s Anatomy” by Lee. The series looks sexy, thrilling, and appears to be a modern take on this trusted franchise.

The Bionic Woman re-make didn't even last a season, and the Wonder Woman remake hasn't made it past the pilot episode (both NBC vehicles, I might add). I wonder if ABC will have more luck with the Angels? Drew Barrymore is the executive producer, and her Angels films were pretty good, so here's hoping.

My love-hate relationship with Facebook

Ok, so maybe this post is more the "hate" than the "love", but...

I've posted on Facebook a couple times how much I hate the concept of "Vaguebooking". The Urban dictionary states that vaguebooking is “An intentionally vague Facebook status update, that prompts friends to ask what’s going on, or is possibly a cry for help“. Or attention. Or both. Lately, I've noticed a few OTHER trends that drive me up the wall.

1. Person A posts that he/she needs help with a certain task or situation. This requests is followed by a myriad of friends who WOULD help if they could, but for whatever reason they can't. You know what, "friend"? That's not helpful and you're wasting space with your response. Examples:

Request: "Just picked up an extra shift this weekend. Is anyone available to babysit the kids?"
Stupid response: "I love your kids! I totally would do it if I didn't live 1000 miles away!" - NOT HELPFUL.

Request: "Flight got delayed. Can anyone pick me up at the airport?"
Stupid response: "I'm working that afternoon, otherwise I would." - NOT HELPUL

Request: "Need recommendations for a good dentist. Anyone?"
Stupid response: "I love mine! Too bad he's in a different state!" - NOT HELPUL

2. Person A is in a stressful or troublesome situation, and his/her friends decided to joke about. You know what, "friend?" My wall is not your stand-up comedy stage.

This happened to me just a few weeks ago. For some reason, the ignition on my car got hosed and I couldn't get the key into the ignition. I was stuck in my work parking lot and eventually had to call AAA, who arrived 3 hours later. Stupid me decided to post about my dilemma, saying: "Well, here's a first: all of a sudden, my key won't go into the ignition."

…and the flood of asinine jokes and sexual references began pouring in. "Are you sure you're in the right car?", "Are you using the right key?", "That's what HE said", blah blah blah. I was pissed and deleted them, and then told people why. C'mon, people, figure out when it's appropriate to crack jokes and when it's not.

3. Friend requests. Here's the thing: Unless we see each other on a somewhat regular basis, have recently met and chatted, or were very close friends in high school or college, chances are I might not remember (or know) exactly who you are. Therefore, sending me a friend request with no accompanying message will send that request right into the "Not Now" bin. Just because we have 400 mutual friends does not mean we know each other, and quite frankly, it shouldn't be up to me to research who the heck you are. Give me some leads here, people, if you want to be friends on Facebook.

4. This next one will probably get me in hot water with some of my friends, but hey… why worry about that now? Stop asking me to pray for you on Facebook. Not everyone prays. Not everyone is religious. If something in your life is so horrible that you need to ask everyone you know to pray for you, perhaps you should get off Facebook and handle it some other way. And yes, I get the whole freedom of speech thing, I truly do… therefore, just as much as you are free to solicit prayer on Facebook, I am free to hide or delete you if you keep asking me to do it. And I do.

5. Receiving an invite to an event that I couldn't possibly attend… a.k.a. "I'm too lazy to actually select the people I want to invite since it's easier to hit the Invite All button." News flash, folks - I live in Orlando. I'm not going to your soiree in Manhattan or your fund-raiser in California. And to all my Connecticut friends - I'm not coming your play, concert, film festival, or birthday party either. While I guess I should appreciate the thought, I still live 1000 miles away and you're just clogging up my inbox. Sorry, but it's true.

Oh, and while you're at it, you kids stay off my lawn. Meh!

Originally written in 1926, West’s play (as well as her works Sex and The Pleasure Man) were considered obscene, indecent, immoral and impure drama” that contributed to the “corruption of the morals of youth”

“The vulgarity of Mae West plays was meant to disrupt the standards of propriety. The speech was intended to sow the seeds of revolution” – Lillian Schlissel

When it was first written, THE DRAG received limited performances. Previews in Stamford Connecticut were cancelled when the manager felt it was to risky to perform. A few performances in Bridgeport, CT and Paterson, NJ were held, but when the play attempted to open in Bayonne, NJ the entire audience was ordered out of the theatre by the police. The Society for the Prevention of Vice warned strongly that if the play ever opened in New York they would move to censor all Broadway plays.

To prevent THE DRAG coming to Broadway , the police raided and arrested West and the entire cast of SEX on February 9th, 1927 – a trial which resulted in ten days of jail and a fine for Mae West.

The play itself is strikingly contemporary in its view of hidden homosexuality and a general theme of how “wealth hides corruption”.

Directed by Michael Wanzie and John DiDonna and featuring (but not limited to) the talents of: Janine Klein, Anitra Pritchard, Emily Killian, David Almeida, Wyatt Glover, Alex Mrazek, Michael Colavolpe, Kevin Bee, Kevin Sigman, Michael Wanzie (of Wanzie Presents) and more to come!

Unpleasant experience at Menchie's Frozen Yogurt of Kissimmee today due to rude fat people who don't understand the concept of a "sample cup", plus a machine that wasn't working that no one was in a hurry to fix - or maybe they just couldnt get near it due to the aforementioned rude fat people "sampling" every flavor in sight. Finally left in disgust wth no treat.
Finally sharing the Idol stage with Laura Hodos this afternoon, followed by the first Act 1 runthrough of Company this evening. It's gonna be a crazy day! :-)

I'll be the first to admit, I NEVER do those annoying "hey, everybody, let's all change our Facebook status/profile pics to blah, blah, blah..."

I don't care what everyone looked like in high school. I don't want to hear what everyone is thankful (during the ENTIRE MONTH of November!), and I don't believe anyone when they go on and on about how such-and-such celebrity - who just died - touched their lives.

Meh. I'm a cranky curmudgeon... and while we're at it - hey! you kids get off my lawn!

The latest Facebook "meme" (which is what the kids call 'em, I guess) is this: Change your FB Profile Picture to a cartoon from your childhood. The goal is to not see a human face on FB till Monday December 6th. Support the fight against Child Abuse by copying and pasting this as your status.

Of course, it's an unrealistic goal, but if it makes you happy, go for it. However, seeing some of my FB friends participate in this made me a bit nostalgic for those Saturday mornings when I would wake up, fight with my sister about who got to watch which show when, grab a bowl of Fruit Loops, and spend the entire morning glued to the TV.

So I said, OK... I'll do this one. Not because I want to fight against Child Abuse. Because I like cartoons. (remember: Cranky. Curmudgeon.Let's add Pissy to the list, too.) So I did a little Google search so I could remember which shows I watched as a kid. I started at 1966 (when I was 4) and stopped at 1976 (14 and starting high school).

So here's what I watched as a youth:

Yup, it's true. I'm sure no one will be shocked at this point, but The QCast Connection is officially gone... for good this time. Real life has taken over and there's very little time and/or energy left to get a show up the way we'd like to.

So... the blog has been shut down, as well as any associated websites and accounts, the Apple/iTunes links have been deactivated, and the episode files are gone from the interwebs.

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm front.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.

15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dang it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice mail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

20. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

21. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

22. I would rather try to carry 10 over-loaded plastic bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.

24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

25. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

28. Is it just me or do high school kids get dumber & dumber every year?

29. There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

30. As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate bicyclists.

31. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

32. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my ass everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

I've already decided that my next car will be a Mustang, and now this has just been announced.

“THE STAFF ROOM” is a new comedy by John Baker, featuring an incredible cast of Central Florida actors.

The play takes place in real time, during the first staff meeting of a new term at Wilson High School, a first class (albeit fictitious) school in the North of England. The meeting is populated by the heads of department for each school subject and the school’s long suffering headmistress, Anne Davies. Anne institutes outrageous... new policies, making enemies among her staff, whose jobs and lives are in jeopardy after she announces that the school’s budget has been drastically cut. The meeting spirals out of control in a series of hilarious tangential discussions, debates and arguments – secrets are revealed, cross words are exchanged and in the heat of the moment, tempers flare as Anne tries to maintain order, and keep a tight grip on the meeting.

The play reading will feature eleven of Orlando’s finest actors;

It is a remarkable example of a wonderful collaboration, and must not be missed!

I'm sure Ned, our friendly neighborhood composer and all-around magic man, will no doubt make the final recording real purty-sounding and stuff.

Oh, and since I didn't have Bert/Adam and Laura/Julie with me for the title song, I just cut their dialogue. Heh.

Walt posts on Facebook how Converse has come out with a new line of Chuck Taylors (of which he has an unnatural obsession) that feature the designs of Dr. Seuss. So I go to the Converse site to check 'em out and in perusing the rest of the site, I learn that you can... design your own Chuck Taylors.

One thing leads to another, and I end up designing (and buying) Chucks that look like the Partridge Family (of which I has an unnatural obsession) bus.

She's a Wonder...

Wonder Woman #600 comes out this week, and to commemorate the event Lynda Carter has contributed the introduction to the book, which was also posted on the DC Comics blog (DC Universe: The Source):

“Did you bring your Lasso of Truth?” people ask me, and I have to laugh.

But it’s true—Wonder Woman accessorizes. She is, after all, a very savvy woman. But as we all know, form follows function. Everything she wears has a purpose: Her golden bracelets deflect bullets, her Venus Girdle endows her with superhuman strength, her tiara boomerangs and her lasso holds others to the truth that she, herself, lives by. And that’s just what we can see. Wonder Woman’s intellect is her real power. She’s honest and disarming, and she kicks butt.

I was like every other little girl who loved to read Wonder Woman comics. At the time, there weren’t many strong female role models. There was Archie’s Betty and Veronica, and then there was Wonder Woman. And they actually offered to pay me to play her on television. Imagine that! I would have done it for free. I’d been in Hollywood studying acting and was a fresh-faced innocent in that town. I was just 24, and putting on that costume—the American flag high-cut bathing suit—was the thrill of a lifetime.

That said, her costume and accessories don’t define the essence of Wonder Woman. She is the “Secret Self” inside every woman—the beautiful, unafraid, tenacious and powerful woman we know resides within us. She is the antithesis of “victim.” She is the single mother working multiple jobs, the unsung heroine, the supportive sister, the devoted daughter, the loving wife. She is the archetype of the Liberated Feminine, and that part of us is not confined by any societal role.

Wonder Woman stood apart from every woman of her time. She was always looking for—yearning for—a connection to others in this new world. To whom could she turn? Not only was she separated from her family and her roots, but she also had her alias to protect. It’s this need to connect that, in my mind, has always made her a human, likeable and complex character.

I never tried to dumb her down or treat her as a two-dimensional comic book character; I had too much respect for her to do that. I played her for real. She had two faces she showed the world, but she’s one person. Diana Prince is Wonder Woman. They’re different aspects of the same individual.

In truth, I never played “Wonder Woman”—I played Princess Diana (Diana, a.k.a. Artemis, goddess of the hunt and of wild things). She came from an island of women where she wasn’t necessarily the prettiest or the strongest. She wasn’t overly impressed with herself. She was intrigued by Steve Trevor and fought for the chance to be the one to take him home. When she found herself in this other world, the America of the 1940s, her heroic reactions flowed naturally from her values and her powers.

While I am forever indentified with the role, Wonder Woman belongs to us all. She lives inside us. She’s the symbol of the extraordinary possibilities that inhabit us, hidden though they may be—that, I think, is the important gift Wonder Woman offers women. Perhaps our real challenge in the 21st century is to strive to reach our potential while embracing her values. Wonder Woman is fearless. She sees the good in everyone, convinced they are capable of change, compassion and generosity. She’s kindhearted and hopeful, and she has a great sense of humor. These are just some of the important gifts the Adaptable Empowered Feminine has to offer. In an age when femininity is casting off restraints around the world, Wonder Woman remains an important archetype.

I loved Wonder Woman as a kid, I loved Wonder Woman when I played the role, and I love Wonder Woman to this day. She is the goddess within us all.

If Einstein is right, and imagination is more important than knowledge, then maybe what we need is to “wonder”…to open our minds and our hearts, to believe in what we cannot see.

Paramount Pictures will release Grease Sing-Along, the sing-along version of the hit movie musical, to select theatres on July 8. These will include theatres in Ocala, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Dallas, Seattle, Miami, San Diego, Austin, and Atlanta. The film will also be shown at the Hollywood Bowl, where it will debut on June 25.

Directed by Randal Kleiser and based on Jim Jacobs' and Warren Casey's musical of the same name, Grease was released in 1978 by Paramount Pictures to tremendous critical and popular acclaim. The film was nominated for five Golden Globes and an Academy Award, and was the winner of the People's Choice Award for Best Musical. Grease stars John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing and Jeff Conaway.

Kodak update and Fail #2

So shortly after posting my blog entry concerning the troubles I'm having with the new Kodak printer, y'all may have noticed the comment from Beth at Kodak. I suppose I'm not surprised that it's apparently someone's job at Kodak to scour the interwebs looking for mentions of the company, but it was a little creepy nonetheless.

Shortly after that, I received an e-mail from Ricky at Kodak Customer Relations, that started with "Your recent e-mail to Connect @ Kodak, has been referred to me..." Um... what? I never sent an email to Kodak; Beth found the posting and commented here on the blog. As a matter of fact, I have no idea how Ricky even got my email address. Be that as it may, after the form-letter apologies and what-not, he went on to offer some suggestions that made it clear he hadn't read the blog posting, and proceeded to do so using a fair amount of spelling and grammatical errors. For example:

"There is an issue that the engineering group is aware of concerning wi-fi connectivity and the Home center and are working on a solution. The current path is not to use Homecenter but to close out Homecenter and reconnect wireless with you Mac OS 10.6.3 Snowleopard. All functions can be down without using Homecenter. When you need to scan you can use Image Capture or another scanning option."

I'll let y'all make the corrections.

My response, after clarifying that I did NOT e-mail Kodak, boiled down to this:

"Sadly, your suggestion to bypass the Home Center is not a viable one. Attempting to print from an application such as Word or Gmail has also been giving me the "printer not responding" error from the Mac's printer control panel (same issue with the scanner). Right now it's about a 30% success rate that I can actually print or scan something wirelessly. I actually very rarely open the Home Center."

Ricky's response (two days later, I might add):

"Thanks for the update. Opening the Homecenter or the Mac Firmware updater will cause the printer to drop the connection wi-fi (wi-fi light will be out), so that printing any application will drop (ie Word or G-mail) and it will have to be re-established via the LCD panel on the Kodak 7250 printer. Also if you have more than one printer que open in the Systems Preferences/Print & Fax and you're printing from the USB print que for the Kodak 7250 it will not print as well and this print que needs to be deleted and the printer will print from the wireless que."

I'm not even sure what all that means.

Suffice it to say that it is now June 1 and the firmware has yet to be updated (mid-May, my ass!) and I'm still only able to print wirelessly every now and then. I even tried connecting the printer via USB and it doesn't work any better that way either.

So what's Fail #2? The new PlaySport High Definition pocket-sized Video Camera with underwater capability.

Now, this camera was a pretty big deal to us when we found out it was coming out over at the Post-Show. We were pimping it out big time, and a couple of us Doc Allbright's ordered them immediately. I used the PlaySport to make our Pie Festival video, and it worked like a dream. Great picture, high def, files easy to edit... the whole nine yards. Well, I tried it in the pool today, testing the underwater feature for the first time. Again, great video...

Lousy sound.

Apparently the microphone doesn't like being underwater since once it goes under, the microphone (and subsequent audio upon playback) sounds like it has remained there. Garbled, muffled, unintelligible. Now, granted, you actually have to change the settings on the camera to underwater mode before it takes a plunge, but I can't imagine that Kodak actually expects you to change the settings back and forth every time it goes under and then comes out of the water in order to get clear audio. And if that were the case, how the hell would you use it in the rain?

So, Beth... if you're still reading this blog... what's the deal with the PlaySport audio??

Reflect THIS, Kodak!

So a week ago, we were informed that Kodak would no longer be sponsoring the Post-Show in the Imagination Pavilion at Epcot and the show would be closing on June 30. No more Dr. Allbright. The reason we were given was "The decision to discontinue the support of Imagination Pavilion is due to Kodak's desire to transform its marketing to better reflect its current portfolio." Whatever that means.

On second thought, I may have an idea.

When the new show opened last May, the printer we were given to demonstrate was the ESP7 ALL-In-One. It was a document printer, it was a photo printer, it was a scanner, it was a copier. It made julienne fries. And it did all of that wirelessly. And the ink was incredible inexpensive. We loved it so much we bought one for the house. It was that cool. And it was an awesome printer. Now, granted, we had problems with it on set at Epcot because we were asking it to basically be a workhorse 12 hours a day, but at home it was a dream.

Until two night ago. I was printing a graphic on photo paper and the paper jammed, and jammed in such a way that the only way I could un-jam it was to remove the bottom paper tray which, I guess, was never meant to be completely removed. Plastic pieces broke, and I couldn't get it back in. Curses!

Oh well, I thought. Not a total loss. A few months ago, Kodak upgraded our equipment on the set and we now had an ESP7250 All-in-One printer. This did everything the ESP7 did PLUS it allowed you to print photos directly from your iPhone or Blackberry. All wirelessly of course - a MAJOR selling point to a household with two iMacs, one PC, a MacBook, and two iPhones.

So we head to BestBuy yesterday and pick up an ESP7250, set it up quickly and test it out. Works like a dream. For about 5 minutes. After that, it was impossible to keep the wireless network connected, despite all the computers and iPhones having no problem doing so. I go online and find a software AND a firmware update and I install both of those. Still no luck. Go back online and decide to talk to the Live Online Help since we've had luck with it before on the Epcot set.

Good lord.

I'm first connected to Person With Indian Name #1, who tells me that there is a department specifically to handle this printer (even tho I filled out all the proper drop down menus indicating what I had) and he/she would have to transfer the chat to them. I'm then connected to PWIN #2 ("Himalaya", actually), who tells me that there is a department specifically to handle network issues with this particular printer. She then transfers the chat to... PWIN#1. He apologizes and transfers me back to PWIN#2. I ask Himalaya, "you're not going to transfer me back to PWIN#1, are you?". She says, humorously, no. Then proceeds to attempt to help me, asking me various questions.

This chat lasts an hour. AN HOUR.

After said hour, Himalaya then decides to tell me that there has been an issue with wireless connectivity with this particular printer and that a firmware update will be available "mid-May". I point out to her that it is now May 20, so "mid-May" has come and gone. Plus, Kodak released an iPhone (and Blackberry) app that allows you to print from your smartphone that absolutely requires Wireless Capability. Plus, this printer has been on the shelves for months, and it's advertised as a printer with... Wireless Capability. And yet, the Wireless Capability DOES. NOT. WORK (and presumably hasn't since it hit the shelves). Two questions:

1) Isn't there such as thing as "Quality Control" to ensure products work as advertised?
2) Since this is a known issue, you couldn't tell me this 5 minutes after the conversation began, rather than an hour later?

Himalaya's suggestion was that I use the printer with a USB cable until the firmware update is released "any day now". Lovely. How will I be notified when the firmware is released? Himalaya said the Kodak Home Center software will alert me when the update is available. The Home Center software that kicks in when you print or scan something. Which I can't do because the network connection doesn't work.

So, Kodak, instead of closing us down and focusing on your "desire to transform its marketing to better reflect its current portfolio", how about you come up with the desire to release products that actually work the way they're supposed to? No wonder you're struggling financially (and I say that as a Kodak shareholder).

In the meantime, don't send me anything I need to print. It may be a few days. Or it may be "any day now". Who knows?

Archie & Friends Get 'Jersey Shore' Makeover

We always knew those "Jersey Shore" kids were a bunch of characters. Now, they're proving it by serving as the inspiration for an upcoming storyline in Archie comics.

In issue #145 of Archie & Friends, on sale in July, eternal teens Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Reggie are bound for the beach, where they'll mingle with the tanned and tattooed cast of the fictional reality hit "The Riverdale Shore."

And the comic book legends -- who spawned a radio show, several animated TV series, and a number of hit records since making their 1941 debut -- become so smitten with the Shore kids that they strive for reality stardom themselves.

Apparently, that includes getting "Jersey Shore"-style makeovers: The Archie & Friends cover shows a bronzed and buff Reggie (rechristened The Complication) channeling The Situation with a serious six-pack, while Archie's red hair is gelled up into a Pauly D do, and newcomer Cheryl Blossom (now known as Snookums) sports an impressive pouf that would make Snooki proud.

Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of their gang will also undergo similar transformations, and an Archie Comics rep tells StyleList that Veronica's parents, Mr. Lodge and Mrs. Lodge, get made over "Jersey Shore"-style too!

The idea for the "Jersey Shore"/Riverdale mashup came about because "we have a few 'Jersey Shore' fans in the office and the idea got bounced around," adds the rep. "It was too great to pass up!"

StyleList is all for the merging of the Riverdale and reality-show worlds -- we just hope we won't be hearing J-Woww doing a cover of "Sugar, Sugar" anytime soon.

In addition to appearing in the original comedy Copping a Craigie, which I posted about at the beginning of the month, I will now be appearing in another original show at the 2010 Orlando International Fringe Festival: Julie Bunny Must Die!

SYNOPSIS:
Adam Chase (graphic designer by day, underground cartoonist by night) is under a lot of pressure. His boss has him working overtime to try and land a big, new client. His fans want him to hurry up and publish the next issue of his hit comic, "Julie Bunny: International Spy". His girlfriend, Lindsey, just wants a bigger chunk of his undivided attention. When the many demands on his time begin to take their toll, he becomes paranoid and irritable. As he falls asleep one night at his drafting table, Adam's characters come together to brainstorm their way out of his writer's block and help him get his life, and comic, back on track. But how much trust can he place in the advice of a fictional evil chef who wants to conquer the world while whipping up a pot of rabbit stew? Shouldn't Julie be a bit more concerned, even with her name on the masthead?

"Julie Bunny Must Die!" features a star-studded Orlando cast, lively original songs, and just enough video to let the creators throw around the word "multimedia" with abandon. Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. To commemorate the busting out party for former Saved by the Bell star Elizabeth Berkley with the aid of vixen Gina Gershon, MGM Home Entertainment has dug into its vault and will release the campy Sin City romp June 15 for the first time on Blu-ray Disc.

Graff Says Fosse Choreography Is Out and Steroids Are in for New "Damn Yankees" Film

Todd Graff, who will direct a new film based on the classic Broadway musical Damn Yankees, told MTV.com that the motion picture will differ significantly from the original version.

In fact, the use of steroids — an unfortunate part of the current world of sports — will be addressed in the movie musical, which will co-star Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Graff told MTV.com, "If a character like Joe Hardy — who's the character in 'Damn Yankees' — sprung out of nowhere and was hitting 70 home runs in a season, who would not think immediately 'steroids'? . . . So [steroids] is not even a side character for us; it's our main character. No one is going to think, 'Oh, it's because he made a deal with the devil!' They'd think, 'He's juicing!'" Graff also said that the subject of steroids may be addressed in one of the new songs that will be penned for the film. Some of the original Richard Adler and Jerry Ross songs will remain, including "Whatever Lola Wants."

Among the other changes: While the original musical concerned the Washington Senators, the new version will likely focus on the Chicago Cubs. And, the famed Bob Fosse choreography will be replaced: "They did that in 'Chicago,' so it's been done," Graff explained. "His stuff was brilliant, his sensibility was very hard-edged and cynical, and I think what we're going for is more of a muscular, athletic, youthful, sexy movie. We're going to be less brittle, less razzle-dazzly and aim to knock your socks off with the athleticism."

"My whole pitch was that it should feel like 'Jerry Maguire' with songs," Graff said. "It should really feel like the real world of a major sports franchise and what would happen with this fantastical goofy, funny idea of a baseball fanatic who sold his soul to Jim Carrey as the devil in order to be turned into a 20-year-old Joe Mauer."

Based on the Douglass Wallop novel "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant," Damn Yankees features music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, and a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop.

The original Broadway production of Damn Yankees opened at the 46th Street Theatre May 5, 1955, playing 1,019 performances before closing at the Adelphi Theatre, where it later transferred, on Oct. 12, 1957. Directed by George Abbott with musical numbers staged by Bob Fosse, the show had an original cast that included Gwen Verdon, Stephen Douglass and Ray Walston. The production won 1956 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Walston), Best Actress in a Musical (Verdon), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Russ Brown), Best Choreography (Fosse), Conductor and Musical Director (Hal Hastings) and Stage Technician (Harry Green).

The most recent Broadway revival, which opened in March 1994 at the Marquis Theatre, co-starred Bebe Neuwirth, Victor Garber and Jarrod Emick.

Song titles include "Heart," "Joe at Bat," "Shoeless Joe From Hannibal, MO," "A Little Brains, A Little Talent," "Whatever Lola Wants (Lola Gets)," "Who's Got the Pain?," "Those Were the Good Old Days" and "Two Lost Souls," among others.

A recent City Center Encores! Summer Stars production featured Jane Krakowski, Sean Hayes, Cheyenne Jackson and Randy Graff.

City Center described the musical this way: "It is the story of Joe Boyd, the ultimate baseball fan, who sells his soul to the Devil for the chance to help his team, the Washington Senators, win the pennant race against the Yankees. The Devil is aided by the sexy Lola, who seduces Joe, but ultimately helps him outsmart the Devil and return to his beloved wife."

Variety reported in February 2009 that the classic Richard Adler and Jerry Ross musical was heading back to the silver screen. The industry paper stated that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron — the famed producing team behind the Oscar-winning film of Chicago, the acclaimed movie of Hairspray and the recent TV film "A Raisin in the Sun" — will produce the film for New Line Cinema.

Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel will pen the script.

The cast will be headed by film stars Jim Carrey as the Devil and Jake Gyllenhaal as Joe Boyd. The role of Lola has yet to be cast.

The film will attempt to inject a contemporary feel into the 1950s musical, according to the trade paper.

So thanks to the good folks over at the Pod is My Copilot blog, I learned that there will be a XXX-rated parody of the 1960s Batman TV show coming out next month. A little research reveals that this is just the latest entry in a long line of TV porn parodies from various companies.

I admit it - I'm intrigued. The trailers are pretty well done (even if the acting isn't), the theme songs are clever versions of the originals, and the sets and costumes are fairly spot-on (even if the wigs aren't). Do yourself a favor and do a search on YouTube or Spike.Com for the titles below - I think you'll enjoy the trailers.

Hey iPhone Users: Got ICE?

I think this app is a great idea, and definitely one every iPhone user should have — and hopefully no one will ever need to use: The free ICE App.

The idea is simple: everyone should have an ICE contact in their phone, "ICE" standing for "in case of emergency." This app lets you enter various categories of info: who you are (photo, address, date of birth, height, weight), your emergency contacts, medical info (pre-existing medical conditions, current medication, insurance information), organ donation preference, living will status, and medical and food allergies.

ICE App is available as a free download from the iTunes Application Store. Once ICE App is installed, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the contact and medical information. Upon completion, place the ICE App icon where first responders (paramedics, firefighters, police officers, etc.) can most easily find it -- for example, in the top right corner of your touch screen. All ICE App information lives on the iPhone -- and not the Web -- ensuring private information is kept safe and that first responders have access to information even when the phone has a weak or no cellular signal.
